Hair

Every two or three years, usually at the beginning of a summer, I get a haircut. About 15 inches get trimmed off, and most of it goes to Locks of Love - a charity that makes wigs for children with cancer or other hair-losing medical conditions.

After that, I do nothing. I wash it, I brush it when it gets long enough to need it, I use cheap ponytail holders. Otherwise I go about my business until it's time to do it again.

I do the same thing with my toenails.

(hehehe, just kidding)

Locks of love is awesome. Truly.

It's neat that you can do something with the hair. Mine just gets left on the floor, to end up who knows where. My sister did the cut and donate thing, too.

Shawn's toenails... Ewww! Brain scrub.

I think I may hate you.

(sigh)

Michael and I both used to do the Locks of Love donation thing, until I realized that shoulder length is the only semi-manageable length for my hair, and Michael decided that short hair would be easier (I think he often wonders about the truth of that.)

My hair is evil. That is the only way to put it.

It requires that I wash it no more frequently than every other day, requires conditioner and two different kinds of anti-frizz serum PLUS hair gel just to keep it from becoming huge as soon as I step out of the bathroom.

THEN I have to wear a hat to go outside, unless I decided to pull it back into two pony tails, because if I don't it's immediately blown by the wind into something resembling a Halloween fright wig.

If I thought I wouldn't look really stupid, and that my head wouldn't get cold in the winter, I'd buzz my hair or shave my head and be done with it.

Too bad I'm a big scaredy cat.

And one more thing? Cheap ponytail holders get tangled in my hair and necessitate yanking chunks out to get the holder out.

Ouch.

I've never been able to find someone to do my hair who could remember me between visits. When they ask me how I want it, I say, "picture what it looked like six months ago...only good."

Needless to say, most of my haircuts suck.

I am jealous. I want hair I can let get long (I used to have such hair, but I pissed it off somehow and it left me, doing so slowly over time so it could torture me).

If I let it grow now, I'd look like Riff Raff from Rocky Horror Picture Show. Which I'm not necessarily opposed to, but there are others who don't feel the same way.

That's awesome that you can - and do choose to do that!

I totally do not have the kind of hair that would work for that. It's thin, soft and flat, and tends to peter out at shoulder length.

Too bad there's no charity I could donate a few inches of waistline to. :(
