Dragon Cave

This post for comments about dragons. That way they don't end up scattered on random posts. :)

MWT,

My apologies, but I got
tagged and I'm supposed to rope in six other people.

Also sorry to start your dragon thread...not about dragons.

Phhhht. You could've at least said they were cute or something! (And no, I'm not doing the meme.)

So how many clicks does an egg need to hatch, and how many clicks for the baby to mature?

Anne C. said...

Good question.
And why doesn't the glowy one have a name?

MWT said...

Brenda: it depends on the kind of egg, but most of them seem to need somewhere around 300 total views, 100 unique vies, 50 clicks, and 4 days. The gold egg was closer to 600/350/75. The proportions can vary a lot though - I've heard it's possible to hatch something with zero clicks, if there are a huge number of views.

My first batch of hatchlings grew up around 1200 total, 250 unique, 75-80 clicks. This time around I have more uniques, which seems to mean less total.

One friend just put an egg into a high-traffic forum for 8 hours and racked up 2000 total views and 1200 unique views in that time; after that he pretty much didn't have to do anything but wait. It grew up fine, but getting that many views that fast is one of the assorted ways to make eggs and hatchlings sicken and die. If he hadn't removed it from the forum when he did, it might not have made it.

Anne: I haven't thought of one yet. :) I'm thinking something that has to do with the sun.

where can one find these dragons

Nathan said...

As an act of contrition, I've clicked all the needy dragons.

:D

Ok, now what is the difference between a total view and a unique view. I guess glancing at all of them and unique view clicking on one of them for information?

Tom said...

Everytime you load a page that has dragons, each dragon gets a total view. If it is the first time today for that computer (that IP Address), it's considered a unique view. Reloading that page later from that computer isn't a unique view.

Clicks are counted also only one per IP Address per day.

As for the counts of all the rest, no one but the Dragon King actually knows. You post your dragon(s) where people will see them, and hopefully click them, and you wait.

I have seen dead eggs, and dead hatchlings, but not so many of them that I know what caused the deaths.

After a dragon grows up, the owner of the dragon can kill him/her. The only reason would be to see if you can revive the dragon, making it a zombie dragon. There's a very small chance of reviving a killed dragon. I've only heard rumors of zonbie dragons. I've never actually seen one.

The only other thing that will affect a grown up dragon is not displaying him or her. It they're not seen, after a while they just go away.

I've only been collecting dragons for less than 2 months, so there's a lot I don't know. And maybe some of the above is wrong. Part of the fun is figuring things out, and hoping your eggs hatch, and your hatchlings grow up.

Thanks, Tom! :-)

Hello Tommy. The dragons are all on my sidebar to the right. If you want your own, click on one of the hatchlings at the top to go to the page about it, then near the bottom click on where it says "get your own." Eggs appear at the cave entrance once an hour or so.

Nathan: What? You weren't clicking them before?? T.T

Brenda: You can thank Tom in a better way by going to his blog and clicking on his own brood. :)

Tom said...

Tommy, on each dragon's page there's a "get your own!" link.

Nathan said...

I had to go to the comprehensive list of emoticons for that one.

XD

Tom said...

Purpetual just got her wings! Her page now shows that she really is female, even though we knew she was, and she can no longer be abandoned.

More evidence that you really do have it right.

Tom said...

Guardian of the Sun grew up! And he's male. So cool.

Tom said...

A further thought on abandoning. I think once you name a hatchling you can't abandon it any more. Both Howsevans and Pinkertine don't have Abandon, but the red and the silver do.

That makes sense to me.

MWT said...

Oh? Well, I'm not planning to name my silver until after I find out whether it's male or female, so I'll check whether it's abandonable as a fledgling...

Tom said...

Howsevans, my white, just grew wings, and she's female. Scratch one on the psychic gender feelings.

I'm building a real dragon harem.

(Darn typos!)

MWT said...

I had an abandon button on the black before I named it. The abandon button was gone after I named it. So I think it might actually be naming rather than fledging that determines it.

Tom said...

My red is still unnamed, and should get it's wings soon. We'll know then if it's naming, fledging, or either, that causes the inability to abandon.

Tania said...

I clicked on the black and it says it's now grown up! Woo hoo!

MWT said...

Woo! Awesome! :D

Tom said...

I confirmed that it's naming that takes away the abandonment option. Also, as an experiment I abandoned my silver male (after fringing) and it worked, darn it. But I was at the cave immediately after, and never saw a sign that an abandoned hatchling was available. I wasn't really thinking, and as soon as I abandoned him, I started regreting. So now your silver will be the first between us.

MWT said...

And I'm looking forward to naming her, just as soon as the lag clears. :) But I need a male to name too, since he's going to have a related name. Should've thought of that before and grabbed another silver.

Tom said...

The paper dragon grew up! Now all you have to worry about is the little dino.

Have a great trip!

Tom said...

You were right! Your dino grew up without any worries. Now you can go on your trip without dragons or dinos on your mind.

Have a great one!

MWT said...

Ah, excellent. :)

Unknown said...

You always seem to find unusual eggs! Now what is this itty bitty one?

MWT said...

Click on it enough, and we'll see. :D

Unknown said...

Maybe the chick is dragon fodder?
Also, I see you have another paper folding dragon. The breed is called Origami dragonis. Planning to breed 'em?

MWT said...

Someone floated a theory that, since the female dragons only eat meat when a male mate brings it to them, maybe the chickens are examples of said meat. ;)

I grabbed the second paper so I could freeze it (which it is, now). I like the way those hatchlings in particular look.

Alas my second split has turned out male too. :( I didn't have time to abandon it before it grew up.

Unknown said...

Maybe the chicken flew in from Oz!

MWT said...

I'm considering getting another chicken at some point so I can name it "The Meal." ;)

Anne C. said...

MWT, You seem to have some young ones at the bottom (not in the "Needs Clicks" area). Just disorganized or are those someone else's eggs/dragonettes?

MWT said...

Well, the mint is actually a grownup. ;) The rock dragon is the kid of Mister Rock and Moonsinger, and it's not mine anymore but I want to watch it grow up anyway.

Unknown said...

Why is your second Origami Draconis frozen as small? It is a female and you have a male. Don't you want more of them?

MWT said...

Well, the grand plan is to just collect one of each kind. The female papers look exactly the same as the males, so there's no reason to have more than one adult. Also, papers can't breed. However, I think the paper hatchlings look neato. :)

Meanwhile, I'm trying to get a female two-headed, which is a different color than the males. That's why I keep getting more of those...

Dragon news of the day:

The silver girl went to Snave's friend, who donated Moondancer to me.

The new white egg is from Moondancer and Lifegiver, and will eventually be released into the wilds.

Tom said...

Major Dragon Cave update in progress. Lots of new stuff to come. As I said on my blog, "Maybe today wasn't a good day to quit dragons..."

MWT said...

With the new lineage features, I've managed to track down that Lifegiver had three grandchildren, but they all died as eggs. :(

My splits also have an adult granddaughter. :)

Tom said...

So, an old-style vine after all. And sombody froze Zepto as a male hatchling.

(darn typos!)

MWT said...

Arrrr. Roxanna got frozen too (pink hatchling, sibling of the vine). I'm not sure I like that. People should freeze stolens instead of breds.

And the other pink egg died. First dead offspring. :( Her owner was an idiot who panicked when she developed softshell at 1/1/2.

Tom said...

Do you know there are 2 new dragons? One is a Frilled Dragon, but the comment on the egg (at the cave) is the same as for skywings. The other is a Geode Dragon, which so far seems to only be the result of a stone/stone cross. It's egg is a very light blue, and rough like a regular stone egg. I have the Frilled eggs, but not the Geode yet.

MWT said...

Yeah, I saw the dark green ones. Haven't gotten around to trying for them yet. Heh, I still haven't made alt darks yet either.
