Nanowrimo

November is (Inter)National Novel Writing Month. It's an annual writing marathon wherein participants attempt to write at least 50,000 words toward a single story in 30 days. The quality of the words does not matter - there just has to be 50,000 of them. Winners get a lucky special certificate to print out at the end, but more importantly, they get an astounding sense of accomplishment.

That's what I'll be doing all of November. It'll be my fourth year and I'm looking forward to adding a fourth certificate to my wall. :) My progress will all be posted to my writing blog at Hobgoblin. Realtime chatter will be with SFFMuse, which has a small, cozy chat community on irc.worldirc.org (come join in, those of you who are also writing and aren't there already!). Nanowrimo has a chat channel on irc.goodchatting.com but I find it too big for my tastes.

My posts here might slow down a lot in the interim.

Meh, so i can't join that chat. I'm only post on RPoL. That doesn't count, does it? :P

Hmm? You can join it if you want. However, as we'll be talking about writing progress and wordcounts and posting snippets at each other for basically the entire month, it might be kind of boring if you're not writing along. I suppose you could enjoy reading snippets...

Ah, I see. It's a strickly nano-chat...Guess I'll pass then.

It isn't, actually. It's a writing community's chat. It's just that the entire writing community will be doing nanowrimo this month.

Same thing ;). I'm not a nano-writer.

Well, I'm about 2000 words into it so far, and rocking along. Trying something new this time around. Good luck MWT, how the hell you can find to write and work a couple day jobs is beyond me - especially since you don't seem to sleep much :)

Glad to see NaNo's going well for you so far, MWT. It's fun, isn't it!?

Yay 2000 words! :)

Yes, it's quite fun. I'm enjoying my own seat-of-the-pants approach this year, which is a change from previous years where I had actual plot outlines and such.

I'll actually be taking a lot of vacation time from my main job this month, like I do every year. It expires anyway if I don't use it by Dec. 31.

(Hi, Jeri from Whateveresque here...)

Glad to see you're making great progress! I wish I could take some vacation time... I think Veterans' Day and Thanksgiving Thu-Fri will be about all I can swing, work is a madhouse for me right now.

I'm finding it surprisingly quick going right now, although I'm sure I'll slow down as I swing into the meat of the story.

Hi Jeri! Welcome to my blog. :)

Good to hear that you're moving rapidly along! I like your progress chart. I usually make one too, but haven't gotten around to it this year yet. It's more of a line graph though, and I have fancy Excel templates that I reuse every year.
