In-car entertainment circles back to the past

First, there was radio. Then there were 8 tracks. Then there were cassette decks. Then there were CDs. Now it's all MP3s. Which means that we're actually back to radio.

I bought an attachment for my iPod yesterday to allow it to play music through my car stereo. It turns out that it can actually play music through any radio - which should've come as no surprise, but I hadn't thought it through that far. It certainly saves me from buying separate iPod speakers.

Does it work well? When we've tried to use that attachment for the Zen, the music was pretty fuzzy. I think it's because every spare hertz in our electromagnetic spectrum is being used here in Denver.

I'm interested in knowing if the iPod attachment is better before I spend the money.

We have one of those. It's not the best quality on the sound. But I think it's because we bought a cheap one just to try it out. A better attachement might give us better sound. But then again, we often play CD:s instead.

Mine is a $40 one from Belkin. It works pretty well when I'm in the car, but alas all my stereo equipment is antiquated and in disrepair, so I don't know if it's the attachment or the equipment that makes it sound weak elsewhere. It works well for my work radio when I put it an inch from the antenna...

I also have a converter for my cassette deck that came in an ubercheap packet of ipod stuff; it sounds horrible through that. Which is why I went with something more expensive.

CDs are sooo last decade. :) It's the wave of the future to rip everything to MP3s and put it on a player, so you're carrying one tiny piece of plastic instead of a big stack of them.

Yea..I know...but we don't have an MP3-player in our car. And I somehow like CD's...Though actually I love vinyl the most...It is better sound on them.

I've been thinking about getting one of those since the CD player in my car doesn't work when it's hot. >:(
I've been uncertain what to get, since I don't have an iPod, I have a Sansa MP3 player. Also, I don't have much spare money. :(

The good news is, they make them for other MP3 players too. :)

The bad news is, the cheap ones probably all sound bad no matter which MP3 player you have. I'd say if you care at all about sound quality, save up for a good one, because otherwise you'll probably end up wasting a lot of time and money. Other than that, I like browsing reviews on Amazon.com for seeing other people's experiences with particular products.
